Healing Mass

Holy SpiritLast Easter Sunday was the first time for me to attend a Healing Mass. It happened by accident as I didn’t know what it was and just took to picking the most convenient time to attend the Easter Sunday Mass.

Fr. Noel from Batangas came to preside over the Mass. After the Final Blessing we proceeded to the Healing Mass. Since I was curious as to what this was I decided to stick around for a while and see what new thing I could learn about my religion.

It was really an eye opener for me as well as a life changing experience. The Priest will pray over you to rid you of your sickness (disease, financial problem, family matters etc) then through the intercession of St. Joseph, the Holy Spirit will be able to enter you. Some of those present will also receive gifts from the Holy Spirit, the most common of it being Speaking in Tongues.

I wasn’t supposed to be blogging about this because the priest told us to keep what happened there a secret, but I guess I can blog about what I experienced. I didn’t sign up to be “slain”, wherein I go up to the priest he prays over me directly and the Holy Spirit enters me, since I’m not one for signing up on things I know little about. But I have to admit that I did experience the gift of the Holy Spirit during that Mass.

I didn’t understand it at first, why I felt like crying when the priest was doing his “slaying”, considering that what he was doing was not happening to me directly. But I finally realized that it was because I was in the presence of the Holy Spirit. I read a lot of accounts before, that people feel an uncontrollable urge to cry whenever they are in the presence of God because they feel the infinite love that God has for us.

So what gift did I receive? No it wasn’t Tongues, but rather the Gift of Understanding. I walked out of that Church with a profound understanding of something that happened in the past with regards to my personal life.

I’d recommend attending a Healing Mass to Catholics if ever they get a chance to encounter one. If you think that since you are healthy you don’t need to attend, think again, not all that ills us is physical. I myself never realized that that one thing was a burden to my life till I attended that Healing Mass.

I am sure it was such an amazing experience. Even if you did not experience speaking in tongues, what you experienced was just as profound, not everyone experiences the Holy Spirit in such a powerful way. Happy for you!!
