Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, Sanctify me.
Body of Christ, Save me.
Water from the side of Christ, Wash me.
Passion of Christ, Give me Strength.
Hear me Jesus,
hide me in thy wounds
that I may never leave thy side.
From all the evil that surrounds me,
defend me.
And when the call of death arrives,
bid me come to thee.
That I may praise Thee with thy saints
Forever.
I was surprised when the choir sang the Anima Christi at Mass. I miss this song. I used to hear it all the time, at Church in Manila, during communion. The choirs rendition of it was so good that you couldn’t help but feel moved.
The Anima Christi is definitely one of my most favorite prayers.
In line with this, I actually got surprised when my religion teacher told our class that the Psalms were meant to be sung. And we thought they were just prayers, “but that’s exactly it” she said. Song is the highest form of prayer. Hence the term “Sing Him praises.” Whoa!, talk about the book (Bible) not being enough to learn from.
