SmartBro Problem Solved!!!
Ok, till the next bout with intermittent connection comes up that is…
Initially I didn’t want to do this because this is SmartBro’s problem and not mine… But now that I have effectively concluded that SmartBro has no Customer Service whatsoever and is in fact the worse Philippine Broadband Provider there is, I’ve decided to fix the connection myself… 3 calls were made by me that cost me about 200 bucks each already (the last was P249) which ended up with the CSR’s concluding that somebody has to come over to re-align my antenna and yet nobody came… those guys don’t know the benefit of a return call when the sender is unavailable to pick up his phone.
So what did I do?… went to the hardware store, bought a pole and added roughly 6 more feet to the existing pole’s height… I noticed that my internet connection would disappear once the wind started blowing… Since I practically trimmed the bushes around my house already there had to be something else blocking my line of sight so the only option was to go higher… 5 minutes after adding the pole I was in business. With the help of the ping function I was able to get the least response time from the base station… 2 days already of very strong winds and my signal is still holding. I’m assuming that 6 months down further I’m going to have to add another few feet to that pole. Somebody’s tree is definitely blocking my view. Then again maybe not, since one of the things I did was fix the angle of my antenna that the SmartBro installation technicians pointed down a bit.
So why am I not giving up on SmartBro? well because I’ve no need for a lot of bandwidth and the hefty price it entails… I make do with the P.788 I spend every month. Unless you have good enough tech skills to diagnose connection problems, I’d recommend staying away from this Do-It-Yourself type of broadband. Get a provider that will happily come over to your house whenever you need help.
