NCCC Matina’s Dancing Grocers
My wife and I got treated to an interesting dance number by the NCCC Grocery clerks while we were doing our weekly grocery regimen. After the 12PM Angelus all the folks who weren’t attending to customers headed to the main aisles and started dancing in unison ala “Pinoy Big Brother.” Any massive synchronized conflagration of moving arms, swaying hips and stomping feet is definitely a sight to see.
After the dance number that lasted for about 5 minutes my wife asked one of the clerks why they did that. According to them it was initiated by management to “awaken” the shop people since they noticed that a lot of folks started to feel sleepy at 12PM. They started doing this around November of this year only. Quite an ingenious solution eh?
Too bad I didn’t have an camera equipped phone to record the dance

I wonder if the staff liked the idea of being “forced” to dance for business’ sake. For a few times, maybe it’s fun for them but later on, they’ll probably feel “exploited”. I don’t know.
I’ve seen the department store staff do this before ^^ around 3pm naman ^^ hehehe
I think it’s nice both for the staff and the customers ^^
@Niko’
I actually had to do a synchronized morning exercise while I was working in a Japanese company which was led by the Director. Didn’t stop doing it till I was 4 years in the company and the previous director got replaced by a new director who was not so fond of leading the morning exercise. Guess if you lead by example the flock of sheep behind you will follow without question
@sunjun
Yeah, same sentiments as yours. What would be more entertaining was if some of the customers started joining in on the dance Hahaha
I’d like to see their dance. Haha, nice idea by NCCC admin.
Oh well. Maybe it’s because I’m not a dancing person and hate it when someone demands that I dance. Hehe.
nice way of entertaining customers. i just hope that those dancers aren’t forced to do it.
@Mikko
Drop by at 12PM or 3PM (Thanks SunJun!) to see the Dance, its very entertaining to watch
@Niko’
Hahaha, yeah same here, I hate doing anything that falls under the clause of “entertaining”
@Sarah
They seemed happy doing it, lets see if they still have the smiles on their faces a month later… and Thanks for Dropping by
yeah…i share the same sentiments with abaniko. a friend once shared his experience in cebu. there’s this one supermarket wherein they also have to dance whenever they hear some series of beeps or sounds from their PA system. It’s dehumanizing. I mean, the management is treating the employees like they are some kind of clap-activated toys.
Just what abaniko said, we’re not sure if these people like what they are doing. oh well.
