PBA Rules

With the recent rule changes in the PBA, which allows for more lenient foul calling (definition: rougher style of play) between the players so as to acclimatize the League to FIBA style of Officiating, I can’t help but notice that some of the players have formulated their own interpretation of the term “Defense” The end result is that there has been more technical fouls called, most probably due to the spate of non-calls being made with this new Philosophy of “letting the players play” building up to this technical foul crescendo.

Take for example the recent Ginebra vs Talk and Text matchup that had Mac Cardona guarding Ronald Tubid and him being called for a technical on the first half of play (I can’t remember if it was the first quarter.) Oh man, these guys have some old scores to settle originating from their college days and these lenient rules are just the perfect arena for them to get back at each other. Even mild mannered Jimmy Alapag is being forced to be overtly physical because of the rules when he got called for an advantage foul when he roughly fouled a Ginebra player on a Fastbreak.

I know that the league is already looking into this but this is definitely something that needs immediate attention, otherwise expect to see bench clearing brawls to be as common as the halftime show in games.

So who said I can’t make a basketball post when the UAAP season is over? *snicker*
