ph_pres_estrada.jpgA few hours from now the verdict of the Erap trial will be read out.

This is a defining moment for the Philippines with the entire world watching. To prove whether we Filipinos really have the guts to convict a Philippine President for Plunder or whether we are just a bunch of forgiving wusses.

If so, then the mustering of the masses on January 16, 2001 at EDSA all went to naught.

Update: The former president gets convicted of plunder but is acquitted of the charge of perjury. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, banned from running for public office and will be required to return the money that was stolen and the house that was built using the ill-gotten funds. His Lawyers have 15 days to file a motion for reconsideration that will take this case to the Supreme Court.

Marc: I think it all went to naught two years into GMA’s administration. Maybe earlier than that.

To me it was justice served and a precedent for future graft and corruption cases involving public officials.

However I’m not closing the book on this one because there are talks of pardoning him for the sake of “unity”…If they do that then that trial was nothing but a Sham…
