UAAPDuring this afternoons UAAP game, the announcers showed the press conference called by the UAAP Board announcing their decision on the protest filed by De La Salle. The UAAP board announced their decision via Fr. Ermito De Sagon.

They decided to uphold the recommendation of the Technical Committee to junk De La Salle’s protest over the fielding of 2 foreign players by Ateneo during their game in the first round.

The said protest was lodged by DLSU because ADMU replaced Jai Reyes with Kirk Long while Zion Laterre was in the game. The switch also happened without informing the table officials, where Ateneo Coach Norman Black pulled out Long and Jai Reyes just ran into the court. Technical head, Commissioner Ed Cordero, admitted that the infraction of ADMU was indeed true but did not merit a forfeiture of ADMU’s win since exact sanctions for the violation were vague. He then elevated the decision to the UAAP board.

According to the board, that since the punishment for said infraction was vague in the handbook they decided to amend it during the Emergency meeting.

Hence forth, the penalty for fielding 2 foreign players at the same time will be a technical foul called on the erring team’s coach, plus 2 free throws and ball possession for the aggrieved team. On the second offense at the same game, said erring coach will be thrown out while the aggrieved team will be awarded two free throws plus ball possession. So what happens on the third violation? Ay Pilosopo! *snicker*
