Dom’s 1000th Post

Yesterday I left my beach side paradise to head on down to the city to accept Dom’s invitation. Once again we’ve proven that whenever Davao Bloggers get together it rains, as I was greeted by a light drizzle punctuated by thick and juicy raindrops on my drive to and from Spro Coffee Shop. Yep folks, be sure to bring rain gear whenever you are invited to one of these gatherings.
That evening we were celebrating the 1000th post of his blog. Happily blogging since April 2004. I have to admit that I am one of the fans of Dom’s blog as he gives a geeky unique insight into otherwise ordinary matters and events.
Aside from the booze, the pizza, the chips and the peanuts, we got entertained by some card games that Dom brought along. Dom showed us how to play Talecraft, a story telling game created by Filipino Ria Lu who has Davao roots. If I had some spare cash I’d buy the P350/pack and send it to the writers of some Cheezy Telenovelas who are in dire need of a good script and an original plot.
Guillotine was the fave game of the day. Barrel of Laughs this card game is yet not entirely appropriate for the kids. Object of the game is to have the most beheaded nobles in your pile with the most number of points attached to them. Along the way you pick up action cards which can net you nobles with high points or make life miserable to your opponents by impending their game strategies.
For lack of time we didn’t get a chance to play the other games that Dom brought along. If ever you want to purchase these games in Davao, go on over to Spro Coffee Shop as they are selling card games alongside their pastries.
I think that is one thing lacking in Davao, a good hobby shop. Then again, Hobby shops seem to have come and gone here in Davao. Lack of a unifying site to bind them together. Who knows?, maybe Spro could market themselves as that? A Geeky hangout where like minded folks can sit, have coffee, swap sci-fi stories over a game of Magic the Gathering while on the side trade bootleg anime manga *snicker*
Thanks for the invite Dom and am looking forward to your next 1000 posts
