My First Father’s Day
I’d like to savor this day forever, but with that being impossible I guess my only recourse is to encapsulate it in time via this blog post.
I woke up late, around 10 AM, owing to the fact that I slept at 5AM… yowza!, come to think of it, I’ve only had 5 hours of sleep. Eniweys… as I stirred from my sleep I heard the voice of my wife saying excitedly that my son should greet me “Happy Father’s Day“… to which my son bounced happily and let out some whee’s and grunts expressing his happiness to seeing me awake… I don’t expect him to be able to greet me just yet though *snicker*
This is my first Father’s Day ever… last year didn’t count and is a day I would like to forget because we had to rush my wife to the hospital because of her pre-term labor. This year I am officially a Dad. It started the day when I saw the first pictures of my son out of the womb (No more grainy ultrasound shots.)
It felt like any regular day till the time I started receiving text messages from friends greeting me a Happy Father’s Day. Then at Mass, after the offertory, the Priest called all us fathers to the altar in order to receive a Blessing. Initially I was a bit shy to go, but a sharp look from my wife made me jump to my feet and follow the slow trudging line of men to the podium. There we lined up like prisoners in a firing line then we were slowly doused with Holy Water by the priest. After the prayer he asked the crowd to give us a round of applause. Recognition!… for being fathers and heads of families… of being providers and partners to mothers in raising the wee bairns… It felt good, left a warm fuzzy feeling in my insides like Christmas Morning when its time to open presents… considering that I’m not even a year into this gig, I already got clapped at!
So what does this have to do with pictures of my son at the beach during one of his afternoon beach jaunts? None actually… I just got weirded out by the similarity between my son’s smile and our little Chihuahua’s smile so I thought of posting it here to get people’s reaction…
I better have a look at that camera… *snicker*
