spurs.pngSmell that?, That’s me puffing at my imaginary victory cigar. I’m savoring the Spurs win in game 1. I was contemplating on posting or not… words can’t describe the elation I felt when the Spurs taught the up and coming Cavs who’s the better team today.

From the stats alone the outcome of the game can be told. The top scorer of the Cav’s point production equals only the third highest scorer in the Spurs team. Defense was what sealed the win for the Spurs.

Bruce Bowen played the most no. of minutes for the Spurs and it was because he spent it guarding Lebron James. He just proved once again that he is the best one-on-one defender in the league by holding Lebron to just 14 points on 4-16 shooting while incurring only 1 foul to boot. Of course he had a lot of help defense from Tim Duncan and the rest of the guys.

The Cavs almost tied the game from a 10pt deficit when they clamped down on Tony Parker during the 2nd Quarter. But the funny thing was, the Spurs next run that increased the lead to 18pts happened with Tony Parker on the bench.

The Cavs threatened to close within 8 again during the 4th quarter but timely plays from the Spurs big men inside ensured the win. Looking at the lineup of the Spurs during the 4th you would notice that Greg Popovich was not taking any chances and went with his Finals veterans. They were manned by Duncan, Parker, Ginobli, Bowen and Horry.

If I could choose one key tactic for the win, it was Bowen’s defense on Lebron with able help defense from the team of course.
