Proud to be Pinoy Right Now…
Thanks to Ria for tagging me with this meme. Which was to write the 3 things that are happening right now that makes me proud to be Pinoy/Filipino.
Well for me the three things are:
- Biofuels Bill was Passed last January and silently took effect last May - This bill calls for a mandatory mixing of 5% Ethanol in gasoline and 1% Biodiesel in Petro diesel during the first stage of its implementation then will gradually increase. This move not only helps revive our agricultural industry, but also helps ween us off of our addiction to foreign oil. Considering that last 2004 we imported $1.2B, $847M and $377M worth of oil from Saudi, Iran and Russia, even 1% of that is still a lot of money that can be pumped back in to nation building. Give it 5 years or so before we can feel the positive effect of this law.
- The Surging Philippine Economy - The last decade we had a a good run under the Ramos Administration before the asian financial crisis and the 2 year president sent our economy into an out of control tailspin. Add to that the 9/11 Tragedy that seemed to shake the no.1 economy in the World which slowed down the countries dependent on their business. We had a hard time recovering but now we are slowly getting on our feet. Largely in part to the inflows of dollars from our OFW, especially the medical professionals, whose compassion for their patients helped promote our brand of “hospitality”. The weak dollar has also helped to increase the value of the peso. Not to mention when the 1995 Mining Act was upheld by the SC in 2005, it seemed to have jumpstarted mining stocks in the Stock Market. Makes we want to think if we should allow for a rewrite of the Constitution and change that part of the law that says that a president can only serve a maximum of 6 years. I hope that the newly elected public officials won’t spend too much time on political vendettas nor inquiries in aide of legislation/showboating, that we end up not moving forward…. but yeah, that’s too much wishful thinking on my part.
- Proud to be Davaoeno - If I can echo the sentiments of my fellow Davao bloggers. Its great to be finally home and have the chance to bask under the sun, rain or stars with her beneath my feet. Not to mention, to be able breathe the fresh air that a city still lush with greenery provides and to be able to visit the beach whenever I want to. The best thing about it, is that because of the internet and advancements in modern communication, there is a means to earn a decent living without ever having to leave Davao. Hey did I mention that we are also one of the safest cities in the country?(Thank God also that our Mayor got reelected) With the cheapest food… my waist line can attest to that. And as long as I live here, I doubt if I will ever see a typhoon again in my lifetime.
