I have to admit that I have been remiss in posting in my blog(sssss…)… and This is the reason why…

I just finished coding Davao Directory, which is a free online directory for Davao City’s Business’ and Organizations. We have about 90 establishments listed right now and with more coming in the succeeding weeks.

One of the inspirations for this site was when I went to a Tourism Planning meet for the TRIAD region of Davao. The other was when a user requested this feature in the main site and I was remiss in fulfilling it because of prior responsibiities. But it was the former that made me light a fire in this project.

Alas I digress, The head planner, a UP professor, mentioned that the experts always say that the 3 A’s for a good tourism site is Accessibility, Accomodations and I forgot what the third “A” was *snicker*. In reality however she said that what’s really needed is Accessibility, Accessibility, Accessibility… if you fail in making your site accessible then you will most likely fail your business. What better way to make Davao accessible to the World and its Citizens, than by putting useful information about it on the web?

So once again in a “Kennedy-ian” streak of answering the question of “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I blew off the dust from the programmers bible, cracked some knuckles and started hammering away line by line, bit by bit. 3 weeks and about 96 coffee cups later (yep, I kept count) the site was finished and ready to be unleashed out into the world.

I get a kick out of playing with the search function of the site. Here are some neat tricks the search function can do:

1. Enter a street name or area name to see all establishments found there (Must be more than 3 digits). e.g. Matina, JP Laurel, etc
2. Enter a phone no (without the dashes) to see which establishment owns it

If you have a business or Org that you want listed, or if you just want to help get Davao City Online, go to the submit page and input the necessary details of an establishment. Please don’t forget to read the disclaimer before posting. For an entry to be published, it must have a valid address and phone no. A description too would be recommended so that people can get an inkling as to what that establishment has to offer.
