Moving On…

thestructorr_magnifying_glass.pngToday was the day I turned over my company laptop and officially ended my existence as an assistant to my boss… Dominique would have been proud of me as I installed Ubuntu 6.06 over the existing Windows XP, in effect deleting all the files in it… I could have gotten it in a day earlier when I realized that there were still some files of my boss in my laptop that needed archiving for turnover to them.

Last week I informed my boss that I had no intention of extending my contract when it expired at the end of the month… Silly me, when I checked my contract it turned out that it ended on February… so basically I’ve been working a month without pay *snicker* Not that I have any plans of collecting either, since I never entered that job for the pay and am very thankful for opportunity to have worked for my boss.

It was a great job for the experience… but definitely there were moments you wanted to rip some people’s heads off… especially the part where some of the people around you ask you to get coffee, re-fill tea or get water for mayor so-and-so… yep, Executive Assistants get the short end of the stick sometimes… you just smile and indulge them, even though it was never part of the job description…

My old ailment of a busted stomach finally did me in as weeks of sleeping in the wee hours of the morning rushing to finish some budget plan, missing meals, working on weekends, running two sections and smoking like a chimney literally opened up some old wounds. “Heal Thy Self” is my mantra for now, hence the drastic decision to quit. No point in wasting my health and getting my digestive system permanently damaged over something that means nothing to me in the long run as I’ve no intention of making EA a career path.

Maybe it was the subconscious fear of not wanting to experience a colonoscopy again *snicker* A colonoscopy is not one of the medical procedures that one should ever aspire to experience. Definitely my departure was quite different from my previous job, where without even the prodding of my boss I offered to delay my last day by 3 months just to make sure that my position was covered and my alternate properly endorsed and trained.

wolverine_jumping.jpgMy wife always gets mad at me for my brazen disregard for my health when I’m working, like Wolverine flinging himself onto a well armed mob with claws extended. The sad reality of course is that I neither have his claws nor quick healing ability.

Definitely Mrs Hoop is happy that we can now finally wear the “Entrepreneur” hat all over again after this brief diversion of mine to work as an EA… But just in case of course its time to update Le Ole Linkedin profile again. The store is open and projects and job offers are now being accepted *snicker*

Yeah, I know that, but there’s the …other ad-hoc assignemnts that would be given from time to time stated at the end of the job description… I’m also an assistant and I feel a bit bad if I still have to do the other … personal stuffs… of the bosses.

    *snicker*
