Alex Compton to the PBA… Finally!
After a lot of tries, Alex Compton has finally been allowed to play in the PBA. The main barrier to him joining the premier professional league in the Philippines before has been the fact that he’s not a Filipino.
Alex Compton is an American Citizen, born in the Philippines and whose parents worked here. Compared to other Fil-Am players in the PBA, he is even more Filipino than them because he can speak the local language fluently.
In a way he has become an adoptive son of Philippine Basketball. Playing first in the defunct MBA, then moving to the amateur league (PBL) when the MBA closed. He worked as a sport commentator in the PBA then as an assistant coach. He tried to enter the PBA but was barred for being a foreigner, under the rules a foreigner can only play in the league as an import. Imports in the league usually play the forward positions.
Compton plays as a point guard in the team. Standing at 5′11″, he is well known not only for his play making skills but also as a very deadly 3 point shooter. In the PBA he was approved to play as a second import for the Welcoat team. His skills will be well used there as the Dragons are the newest team in the league and are usually the cellar dwellers.
Way to go Alex, good luck in the games and congratulations for finally being allowed to play.

paano yan? when import season ends so bawal na ulit siya? sorry, not up to date with basketball news ^^
Not sure if they’ll still allow him to play, I think they allowed him to play this time because a lot of the players were drafted to the National Team
Wow, finally! I’m a fan of Alex Compton not only becoz of his basketball skill but also of his personality and attitude. He’s humble and has a very good work ethic.
They should just give this guy dual citizenship. He’ll be a very good addition to our National Team.
I’m sooo happy for alex, i’m such a big fan of him, sadly though i wouldn’t see him play as i’m out of the country (i’m here in australia. but i try to get news about him as much as i can…so it would only be temporary is it? i hope they’ll just let him play. as everybody’s commenting, he’s more filipino than most of the so-called fil-something players.
TO ALEX, i’m very happy for you, and always remember that there’s a fan here in australia who always includes you in her prayers. you’re such a wonderful person and you deserve the best!!
