On Childhood Ambitions

A married couple from Manila, who were our good friends, was here in Davao for the weekend. We played hosts to them and showed them around this great city of ours. One of the dinners we had was at the Buffet Palace at McArthur Highway in Matina.
Taho at Buffet Palace

On that particular buffet-dinner my wife was able to fulfill one of her childhood ambitions which was to be a Taho vendor and experience spooning the soy bean curd of a Taho dessert. So definitely part of the dinner discussion then centered around fulfilling our childhood ambitions. “Childhood” because when we made plans of what we wanted to be when we grew up when we were young, the thought of it ever earning enough money to support us never crossed our minds.

One friend was able to fulfill his ambition of directing traffic. One day at a busy intersection in Cavite, due to the absence of traffic aides, this guy took the cudgels to step up to the middle of the intersection and for a few minutes untangled and directed traffic. Another friend’s childhood ambition was to man the cash register of a grocery. While I always wanted to drive a passenger jeepney and collect fares. So here’s lighting a candle to our childhood ambitions and may we one day find the courage to fulfill them.

So what’s your childhood ambition?

If you don’t join a band, you could always try volunteering to sing the national anthem :D

All I wanted before was to learn some voodoo tricks so I could make my “enemies” suffer from a terrible toothache, stomach pain or bloated, itchy face. Weird ambition.
