My Ode to Instant Noodles…
I found out yesterday that, Momofuku Ando, the inventor of the Cup Noodle, died of a heart attack at the age of 96. The interesting thing about this was when I was about to go online I had already prepared a cup noodle (shot recreated with the pc shut down again) for the evenings meal.

I owe a lot to Ando-san’s creation… a lot of late night work was fueled by this “just-add-hot-water” marvel. It was the perfect worktime snack when deadlines were hanging over you like the Sword of Damocles. Better than a sandwich because it was warm and filling and not cumbersome and time consuming as a packed lunch.
The first image that comes to my mind when people say that they are working late, is of them holding a cup noodle and staring at a monitor. I guess it was the perfect food for the internet age because like the internet, it was quick and filled a need.
I walked around our house last night and I found some odd remnants of cup noodle containers. Like in our bathroom. We use them to hold water when cleaning out the sink. It holds just the right amount of water so as not to be too wasteful and cumbersome.

I found some also in our kitchen. We use them to hold our heroin needles and other drug paraphernalia…*kidding*… we use it to hold the syringes for our dogs… every month we inject them as a preventive measure to fight fleas, heart worms and other nasty parasites… or course each dog has his/her own syringe.

So long after the meal has been consumed there was still some usefulness utility we got out of the instant noodle… well, maybe in our house…
So Ando-san, My Deepest Thanks to You for this very Wonderful Invention.
