wom8.GIFDuring her pregnancy my wife was unfortunate enough to have to experience pre-term labor during her 6th month. The result being: she had to spend a week in the hospital. Some of that time was spent in the delivery room, surrounded by women in labor from whom she’d learned a lot from. What she got out of that experience helped prepare her for her labor with regards to what we had to bring to the hospital.

The stuff:

  1. Infant Formula - mothers usually don’t have any milk yet during the first few days.
  2. Feeding bottles - don’t forget to bring the sterilizer that goes with that.
  3. New Born baby diapers - the emphasis on this, is that it has to be specifically for New Borns.
  4. Baby Clothes - shirts, bib, mittens and socks. Bring the whole shebang as your child will be changing alot. Based from our experience we had to have about a dozen pieces.
  5. Baby’s Blankets and Towels - this was helpful too when we brought our baby home as the sun was very high and we needed something to shield him from the dust and heat.
  6. Adult diapers - after being sutured the mother won’t feel anything or it will be physically impossible for her to go to the toilet.
  7. Crackers - you won’t be allowed to eat any solid food when you’re already in the Delivery Room, only light snacks is what they will allow you.
  8. Bottled water - if you’re not too keen on your baby drinking from the tap as well as for the mother to drink when she’s in the Delivery Room.
  9. A copy of your marriage certificate - in the Philippines you’ll need this for the application of your child’s birth certificate.
  10. Eating Utensils - Plates, Forks, Spoons, Knives - Dependent on the amount of guests you will be expecting to visit you.
  11. Cleaning Utensils - You will need to wash your eating utensils.
  12. Spare clothes - for both the mother and the watcher. My wife wore a maternity dress when she checked out, easier to put on and less painful for somebody who was just recently sutured.
