Nestle Nan vs Promil S-26, Round 1

set387_01.jpgAs a first time Dad I’m guilty of over analyzing everything that comes into contact with my firstborn (heck I’m just 3 weeks into this full time gig)… the thing that’s high in my radar right now is infant formula…

Our friends and relatives were suggesting Promil’s S-26, because it’s a proven formula for them that was recommended by their doctors… looking at their kids, I’d go for S-26 too because their kids are smart and healthy… ok,ok I might have been brainwashed also by those Promil Kids for Prodigy’s being shown in the tv.

I can still remember the look in my wife’s face when I came home and she told me the devastating news… that our pediatrician recommended Nestle Nan… because it was hypoallergenic… meaning that if our son used it he would be less prone to developing allergies… verified by what was written on the can… my wife asked some friends who gave birth on the same year as us and they too were using Nestle Nan as recommended by their pediatricians…

So here I am thinking, which is really best for my son? Because I know that this could be just a marketing blitz by those Med Reps… who knows, maybe in a few months our doctor will be recommending S-26 again? Drilling down to the small print in the cans I found out that both have the same ingredients in them but with S-26 having a few grams more added than Nestle Nan.

Plus and Minuses:

For S-26 :
1. Already proven in our friends kids
2. They say most Philippine child prodigies used this (hey, I’d go for this for that fact alone)
3. Compared to Nestle Nan it has more ingredients of the essential elements by a few grams
4. It is cheaper by P50.00

For Nan:
1. Hypoallergenic, babies aren’t prone to developing allergies
2. Expensive by P50.00
3. My baby loves it so much that he doesn’t want to breastfeed from his mother anymore…

The verdict:
I’d go for Nan for the fact that my baby loves it, but I’m worried about his not wanting to go back to breastfeeding…since breast milk is more easily absorbed by his body than infant formula… like the title of this post said, it is still round 1… let’s see after a few more weeks…

Are you going to be one of those people who will start talking about baby all the time?

Donna (Gonzales) was in the Philippines last month. Sheryll, Gins, Tin (San Juan) and I all had dinner. The following was what we talked about:

    1. breast milk

Sometimes when taking a hot shower, breast milk will suddenly spray out. Just like in comedy movies. The description did not come from me.
She didn’t konw if she was going to laugh or cry.

    2. diapers

The theory is boy’s urine has a bad reaction to one brand and girl’s to another brand.

    3. milk formula

Gins’s brother works for Mead Johnson. She gets more than 50% discount on milk formula. She gets 4 cans a month for about P1,200. One time her ration ran out so she had to buy a can on her own. She rushed to the supermarket and found out the regular price for 1 can is P900.

This Saturday, Eric Dimacali’s baby will be beptized. I went to the department store to buy a gift. I also chacked out the prices for diapers. That much for a pack that will probaly last only 3 days! I hope there won’t be much baby talk on Saturday.

    Yep, I guess I am… hehehe

I think the trick there is to not bring up the topic of baby’s so as not to get me started… hehehe

Expect a lot of baby talk this Saturday… hehehe

[…] Well the truth is, neither of them passed muster… as we found out a few weeks ago that our son is lactose intolerant because he always had gas pains and he suddenly developed diarrhea… which necessitated a trip to our doctor who then recommended us to switch to Enfalac… checking the ingredients I found out that its similar to what Nan and S-26 have, although majority of the dosage were lower. A handful of the key elements however had double the dosage than what Nan and S-26 had… […]

I am using S-26 Gold with Lutein as my breastmilk substitute for my baby because for me it makes my baby healthy aside from the nutrients and vitamins he got from me, he was also nourished by the additional vitamins that S-26 is giving him. That’s why eventhough, its very expensive because it costs (Php 1,300) I always go for it.. My husband told me that he really wants to feed our child with S-26 so that our baby will also be pro-gifted the sme with those child prodigy we seen on TV. And I am glad that I am seeing my child different from other babies nowadays. He’s taller, bigger, he has clear eyes, smooth skin, and beginning at 2 1/2 months old, he can say mama. He’s very talkative until now that he was 5. He likes the camera very much, that’s why he looks photogenic. Now that he is 5-months old, once you call his name, he will immediately find for the person who call his name, and once he find you, he will smile. So, I concluded that S-26 is a good choice for a working mom like me, but breastfeeding is still the best gift you can give to your child so he will grow as a better person and closer to you because everytime you breasfeed your child, he will always feel the warm of your body that will give him comfort as the days goes by.

I gave birth to my daughter 2 yrs ago prematurely, first option was S-26 because I was a s-26 baby. however, my daughter wasn’t able to get use to it she couldn’t poo with S-26. so her pediatrician recommended nestle Nan premature but it was really very hard to find so she asked us to use NAN 1HA until she was 6months then changed to NAN 2HA after 6months then was changed to NaN 3 when she turned 1yr and a half. Here is what i have observed, my daughter has really sturdy bones. She started walking at 7 months. Sitting at 3 1/2 months. Say dadi, mami, dede and tita at 5 months. She has never been sick and is very curious. at 15 months she was able to say wiwi so she can go to the potty and she doesn’t like wearing diapers during the day.She is kid with a happy disposition, very friendly. Now at 2, she knows how to turn the computer on and off, choose the dvd that she wants to watch(like dora, jollibee and disney), she even operates the dvd and tv. She can tell you what she likes to do and what to eat(prefers vegetables). Well, people are amazed when they see her at home because she can even brush her teeth on her own and choose the clothes to wear. she can easily recognize people. All in all, i am very satisfied with NAN due to the very good outcome. I can’t complain except for the fact that it is very hard to find even if she is already using NAN 3.I hope this helps you, im sure you’d observe a lot from your baby as well. But still they have said breast milk is best for babies.

Yes this is true! NAN has more content of vitamins and minerals than Promil.
