Dog Lover’s Paradise…

I went with my boss to his friends house yesterday… we had a look at his kennels… he currently breeds Labrador Retrievers and he has more than a dozen of them… some of his dogs are certified Philippine Champions… so he goes around the country competing…

What I got was also a crash course in good kennel design…

Each cage is about 3 x 6 ft in dimension, having detachable plastic flouring and tiled/cyclone walls… the great thing about the plastic flooring (similar to what is being used in modern commercial piggery’s) is that it can be easily cleaned and not slippery to the dogs (which could damage their stance)… the drawback is that it causes caluses in the dogs and cause them to lose points in show competitions…

There was also a run area where they can exercise in the afternoon…

Even got to see a real live bulldog… very big!, which was kinda out of place in the sea of yellow and black labradors *snicker*

His dogs were really well taken care of, not too fat, not too thin… he even has an airconditioned whelping box… so that the puppies won’t get stressed out because of the Davao heat…

For a dog lover like me, that was heaven…

i know exactly how you felt. i had that kind of experience when me and my wife went with my cousin to San Bernardino’s dog pound. you’ll see the poor doggies that were abandoned, got lost and rescued from different places. you’ll also see different breeds of dogs from pitbulls, terriers, retrievers and some mixed breeds.

it was quite a sad experience coz you see them with those eyes looking at you, some of them whining and barking at you as if they’re saying “Please take me home”. how I wish I had the resources and capacity to take those dogs, keep them and take care of them.

the puppies are okay coz most people prefer to adopt them. the saddest part is, those who aren’t adopted and stay there for a long have to be euthanized after the alloted time period.

Yeah that feels sad… I wanted to take all those Labs home with me… but their owner will shoot me if I did that because he loves those dogs so much… hehehe
