The day we became parents…

My son was born today… 9:38 am… in just 38 minutes upon being wheeled into the labor room from the delivery room… my wife did it without any epidural anesthesia… no time the doctor said because he was coming out already…

I all started by my wife waking me up at 5:30 am and telling me that her water broke… so we drove immediately to Brokenshire hospital. (this time I made sure to not forget my own set of clothes…*snicker*) What we thought was her water breaking was but the tip of the iceberg as she started gushing while standing at the ER…
adsc00413.jpgAt the Delivery room I was asked to buy her some light food and get her some orange juice… no luck on the food and the orange juice as the canteen had already ran out of stock… I bought her some strawberry juice instead and waited for the store outside to open in order to buy some crackers… I went back down again to have some breakfast and to smoke… I think it was half a pack that I smoked… when I came back up I stayed first in our private room as that was where they advised me to stay… after a while I went back to the DR to check up on her incase she wanted something else… I felt that there was a certain air of madness in the DR as people were running back and forth asking for more staff people to be brought to the DR as they were running out of people to assist in the pregnancies, punctuated by the fact that nobody wanted to notice me standing at the door asking about how my wife was and whether she was already in the Labor room… to which an elderly nurse said that I should just wait and then I thought I had distinctly heard our doctor barking instructions to my wife to push… I of course thought nothing of it… so I went back to our room and waited a few more minutes to which I couldn’t stand it anymore because I was madly pondering whether it was really the voice of our doctor I heard telling my wife to push (like some giant snow ball gaining momentum rolling down a hill…)

When I went back to the DR I saw my wife knocked out and being wheeled out of the Labor room… she had just been sutured… Whoa! she gave birth that fast???… and just like that… I was a Dad… and my wife was a Mom…

The nurse, who we found out to be a distant cousin of my wife asked for our camera and came back with some pictures of our baby… a nice lady also waiting for her daughter to give birth asked me if my wife had already given birth, to which I proudly showed her the pictures in our digicam… then she proceeded to ask me if I had already given the baby clothes to the nursery… on which I said no and rushed immediately to our room to pick up the baby clothes… then I realized that I left it in the car… blehhhh… I sped to the parking lot and back to the nursery panting like a frikking horse in the kentucky derby…

The nurses in the nursery asked me to pay for some tests to be done as well as asked for some diapers and baby formulae… which I had because my wife had the foresight to pack this stuff…

The rest of day was sort of like a blur as I waited for my mom to arrive and one tita came to help watch over my wife; who was knocked out cold because of the anesthesia… around 4 pm we were allowed to view our new bundle of joy in the nursery… normally the baby would stay already with the mother in the room order to encourage breast feeding… since my wife however was discoverd to have UTI on last week (drat, to think that in the previous weeks her tests were coming out negative) he had to be put under observation in the nursery to see whether the bacteria had transferred to him…

I was watching my son between a sheet of glass and I felt that I could just lose track of time watching him sleep and stretch… (and yawn… and stretch again… and open his mouth… and so on and so on)… which I almost did as I hurriedly rushed to a meeting… my boss was surpised that I was there and said that I should be with my wife right now… to which I answered that “the world shouldn’t stop for me”… that earned a laugh with the people I was having the meeting with… and besides by that time, the entire family was there already watching over her… hehehe
