Clutch Moments…
Last Friday I barely got home with an on-again mostly off-again clutch cable… the past few days I’ve been borrowing my mother’s car because I needed the four wheel drive… so when I got my car back I noticed that the clutch was riding kinda high… I asked her after I got back to the house if her driver had anything fixed with my car… turns our he had bought a clutch repair kit and had the clutch master changed… “uh ok” I said…
Something oddly familiar about that part… then I remembered when I was already in the city that the clutch repair kit was the only part in my car that I had to buy originally from toyota… yikes… and 10 minutes into my epiphany was when I felt my clutch pop… good thing I was able to park it into the side…
I did the only sane thing, which was to leave it on the side of the road while I went on with my errands… late in the afternoon I brought a mechanic along with me to have the car checked… the clutch cable still had fluid in it, the bad news was that it couldn’t retract back from the down position… it would retract if you pumped the clutch pedal a few times… instead of leaving the car there I decided to drive it home.
I spent that drive home dodging traffic by ducking into side streets, waiting at gasoline stations and pumping vigorously at the clutch pedal whenever I lost my clutch… of course there had to be a climactic moment to that drive home… when I lost my clutch on the home stretch… no amount of pumping would make the cable retract…
Times like these makes me wish I had an automatic… *snicker*
