The Great Laptop Hunt…

My boss asked me to canvass a laptop for myself… he asked me a few days ago if I had a laptop… I said not anymore

About a week ago my 12k Hyundai Libero laptop decided to commit harakiri by blanking out it’s display screen…. prior to that some letters in the keyboard weren’t functioning anymore… that’s why I didn’t like bringing it around…

I initially bought the laptop because I knew I would be doing some consulting once I got to Davao… so portability was a necessity… I even bought a cooling pad for it with some of the money from my gift certificate that my previous company awarded me for a job well done… yup it pays to always take the point in a tough project… alas I digress… it was because i noticed that it was running quite hot and heat is a laptop’s worst enemy because it could melt some of the plastic stuff needed to run the laptop… the laptop keys not working were telltale signs of damage already taken…

Anyways, I spent the day canvassing for a cheap celeron laptop with built-in WiFi… yup that’s all that I was looking for… a high spec laptop won’t really do me any good because I’m not into coding nor graphic’s since I semi-retired from the IT industry…

Looks like Acer is my best bet… but I’d prefer an IBM/Lenovo because of its reliability… too bad I didn’t find any in the 40k budget…

Lots of used Thinkpad R50E on TipidPC for PhP 30something thousand. I saw a pentium-m based one for PhP 35k. The Acers seem a good deal for PhP 40k, but then again, I’d rather go for a thinkpad. I do think the .

Got my Compaq V2617 for P31k. No built-in WiFi, though.

Hmm. I think I may have missed typing a “>” back there and hence broke the HTML. Should have read as follows:

I do think the R51E A21 still retails for PHP 42k.

I was saliviating over the R51E when I first saw it… my problem was that I’m in Davao and it retails for 45k here… *sniff*… so it was way off the budget already…

thanks for dropping by Angelo :D
