Barred from entering the PRC…

I went to the Region XI Professional Regulation Commission office near Sales street in the Uyanguren district to ask about renewing my engineering license…

After asking the guard where I could go to renew my license he stopped me by asking where I was from… I said from Davao… he then said that I couldn’t go in because I was wearing shorts… Huwat???… To think that I was even in a white short sleeved cotton polo…

Its not like I was wearing short-shorts nor basketball shorts… rather walking shorts that were well past my knees… (heck, even the British Army during World War II used it as a uniform)… the guard said that it was just policy and pointed me to an inkjet printed sign that said exactly that… the only exception was if I came from a far off province… but only upon proof of a valid ID or a Sedula which showed that I came from outside of Davao City… it was like saying come back again when you’ve found pants in your wardrobe…

I wasn’t pissed when I left, just absurdedly absurdely amused… because of the heat in Davao I usually travel in shorts unless I have to attend a meeting or someplace where I’m not suppossed to expose my hairy knees, it’s practical to stay cool in this tropical climate…

Tomorrow I’m planning to walk in there in my Barong Tagalog… *kidding*

    Funny indeed. But this a case of plain discrimination against the citizens of the city, and violates the equal protection of the law. It would have been ok had the policy been for all, and not just for our own people. Smacks of unprofessionalism in the - of all offices - the PRC.

    Oh? And I thought it was just me. Here’s my Davao City guard experience earlier this year.

    akala ko sa iloilo lang may ganito. i was also stopped by the guards there around 3 years ago.

    and to think that I travelled all the way from Bacolod. thats 1 hour ferry ride. kahit ganun kalayo, i wasnt allowed to get inside.

    :(

    bakit sa SSS ok lang naman. I did apply for my SSS card wearing shorts and tshirt na pang bahay. (nasa harap lang kasi ng bahay ang SSS) at literally, mukhang bagong gising ako. but i was still entertained by the staff.

    tsk tsk tsk

    @Sir Pete

    That’s why I’m glad I have you as our councillor Sir! :D

    @Nick
    Whoa so it’s not just the PRC :D Maybe it’s some deep seated hatred for short pants that’s driving this discrimination hehehe

    @Eric
    Oh man, that sucks talk about wasted pamasahe… I even humored the guard by saying that my house is in the boundary of the city so if it could count as not being from Davao *snicker* I even have the sedula to prove it… hehehe

    hahahah same thing happened to me

    pardon me for laughing but last january 2006 i was in davao for a short vacation. My friend asked me to accompany her at that white building along Ecoland, (hall of Justice ba yun?) Anyways, i was wearing tank top (not spaghetti straps) and capari pants then sandals. And of course i was stopped because i was wearing sleeveless.

    In that warm weather, i didnt even bother nakakapagod na hehehe

    blog hopping from Sir Peter’s blog!

    […] This is the 3rd time I went to the PRC… I thought it would be the next to the last time I would have to go there then good riddance till after 3 years when I have to renew my license again… well looks like I was dead wrong… I went there yesterday to pick up the application form and the requirements. So today before I went in I did a doublecheck to make sure that there would be no reason for me to not be able to enter the PRC. […]
