Prudence and Patience pays off

My wife was looking for a maid for my mother-in-law, since in her old age she and her sisters felt that it was not wise that she should still be doing the household chores.

While asking around our place of residence, one of those we asked immediately volunteered for the role. She explained that she wanted to get away from her abusive husband. Who would beat her up whenever he got drunk. My wife asked her if she was sure and she said “yes.” I told my wife that she should be cautious about her since she was in a highly emotional state and therefore was not probably thinking correctly. Wait a week I said.

So we waited one week, she came back, my wife asked her again if she was sure about her decision and she said “yes.” So my wife gave her a bag to pack her clothes in and I was scheduled to go buy a plane ticket the following day.

Come the following day the girl comes back, tells my wife that she’s not going to push through anymore because when her husband saw her packing he asked for forgiveness and promised to never hurt her again so that she wouldn’t leave him.

So we just saved ourselves the trouble of having to refund a ticket. *snicker* Seriously, that’s why I like to defer judgements whenever one of us is in a bad mood or in an highly emotional state. Whenever my wife and I have our little disagreements we always just spend time alone so that we can cool off. Lest some words which were never meant to be said be blurted out and effectively ruin our situation further.

On the other hand, I wasn’t really that confident about getting the girl, because I didn’t want to be the solution to a marital problem. Not to mention that I didn’t want that guy coming over to our house whenever he is drunk and banging on our door asking to bring his wife back.

Update: Note to myself to tell her to report her husband to the barangay if she becomes a victim of domestic violence once again.
