Digital Filipino, a must join club…
On the suggestion of my friend I signed up with Janette Toral’s Digital Filipino Club… it’s a business networking club for IT professionals and companies… since I’m not associated with any IT company as of the moment I signed up as an individual… Off the bat my subscription was already paid for when they gave me a PHP book from O’reilly as part of the members perks… *snicker*
I attended the first ever networking event of the group in Davao last thursday. Present were Councillor Avila III (representing local government), Davao DTI folks and members of the IT community in Davao.
The main driver of my signing up was so that I could touch base with the local IT community and see how everything works here… from there I learned that there is already an association of Davao IT companies organized under the ASID banner (Assoc of Solution Integrators in Davao?)
Very informative was the Philippine Outsourcing report of Janette which she presented and asked some of the members to help fill-in the blanks for the Davao side of the report. I learned a lot of interesting stuff as to how the different cities in the Philippines are working to make their city’s IT attractive… definitely outside of Manila, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro are the city’s to emulate for Davao.
All in all I have to say that it’s a good group to join if you are in the IT industry… makes me want to get back to fulltime IT work… *ackkk* *must* *resist*… what was disappointing to note was my lack of business cards to reciprocate the business cards given to me…I remember having a stackfull of business cards at my desk before but had no one to give it to… *slaps palm on forehead*…
