I had the car fixed today because it was already scheduled to have it’s oil changed. I also asked them to check the brakes because I wanted to know how thick the pads were. It was a good thing too because it turns out that my front brakes were nearing the end of its usable life. (old brakes on the left, new brake pads on the right)

What irked me was that usually the brake pads have a low pad alarm built into them so once the pads reach a certain height the metal alarm will scrape the discs and start squealing whenever you hit the brakes. Well surprise surprise my replacement pads didn’t have this feature built into it. If the metal on the pads start hitting your discs then it could lead to disc scratching as well as damage your brakes.

This incident made me realize too that I haven’t maintained a car in a long time. I ditched my car in manila last 2001 for public transportation the moment gas hit P15.00/li… look where we are now.
