G.I. Joe…

When I was a kid, I was a huge fan of the G.I. Joe animated series that was shown in RPN 9… to the point that I had copies of the t.v. series… not to mention that I scrimped and saved so as to be able to buy the action figures… what started it all was the chance of being able to watch G.I. Joe I (Mass Device) and G.I. Joe II (Weather Dominator) in Betamax form from your friendly neighborhood rental service…

Flint was the first one I bought with my own money… I remembered trooping over to Lil’s gift shop at Goldcrest Makati to buy it… my first action figure however was Snow Job, a gift from my mother… every birthday and christmas afterwards I received a new action figure for my collection…

Browsing around the internet, I found this great fan site for the action figures and toys (it even has preproduction and never seen before items) … it sure does bring back memories… as for my toys?, errr… I mean action figures… well they’re locked up in a box in my room in Manila… something I look forward to bringing home to Davao soon…

G.I. Joe today however has become pathetic… the main thing that drew us kids to the toy line was because they were realistically made to look like real soldiers… everything made by Hasbro after 1987 has gone to the dogs… they deviated from this formula by introducing unrealistic characters and vehicles… oh well, that’s another childhood memory butchered for the benefit of free enterprise… *snicker*
