MySQL’s crossover…
The Oracle corporation has already gobbled up INNODB and Berkeley DB parent companies. Both of which are database engine’s for MySQL, the most popular open source database in the market.
MySQL was poised to eat into Oracle and SQL Servers enterprise market share when it released ver 5.0. It had some much needed enterprise features (stored procedures, triggers etc) which could attract major players (ex. SAP) into porting their systems to the database, till the recent acquisition which casted a shadow on the future “open-sourceness” of MySQL.
Now there are reports that MySQL is planning to sidestep this offensive move of Oracle by developing its own DB engine. And the plot thickens…
