Battle of Britain…
Today I watched something I haven’t watched in a long, long, long, long, long time…
Battle of Britain was filmed in 1969 with an allstar cast… including Christopher Plummer, Sir Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine… it tells the tale of the Royal Air Force’s gallant stand against the German Luftwaffe poised on invading the British Isles during world war II.
How from an almost defeat they were saved by a stroke of luck. Germany’s Airforce was concentrated on destroying the British’s air defense so that a cross channel attack would go unimpeded. However fate may have it that one of Germany’s bomber attacks accidentally dropped their bombs in London, which caused the British to retaliate by bombing Berlin. Which of course irked Hitler. So instead of continuing their attack against the British Air force’s Airfields, they were determined to obliterate London… this divergence in strategy gave the British Air Force the respite needed to beef up their armada… at the cost of course of London being bombed repeatedly… ok ok, some other boring trivial data I will leave out already least I get carried away again with my typing… *snicker*
It was my dad who first introduced me to this movie… so there is some sentimental value to it… I sure remembered a lot of stuff while watching it…not to mention that it’s a long movie of more than 2 hours… I even remembered that it was the Spanish Army who loaned the Me 109’s for the movie… like it was probably difficult to get working World War II aircraft in 1969.
