Back to Bananas…

The sem break afforded us some time to get some other responsibilities in order. Which of course equates to my bananas… have been neglecting them lately, letting others do the manual labor… another of course was to grab an oppurtunity to go up to General Santos to look at a production facility… an invite from an Uncle… looking forward to that too by next week.

Today I took time out to walk the fields (wow as if it were a big field :D , trust me it didn’t take that long to walk it *snicker*) and try to discover why some of my bananas were bowling over after some pretty strong rain fall… well it was only for a particular patch of field that I noticed that some bananas would fall over…

Today I found out why, after actually taking over the laborious task of replanting a fallen piece of foliage… turns out that the bottom part of soil that it was planted on is pretty dense in itself. Because of which the roots of the plant can’t dig itself in. Hence they tend to just ride out on the top soil, instead of trying to dig deeper, the roots would just tend to spread out….

Great work Sherlock… too bad I still haven’t found a cure for it… I guess I just have to contend with eternal vigilance on that particular piece of patch… which also makes me realize, that once my bananas start fruiting on that particular patch, I will have to have some bamboo around in order to prop the tree up with when the burden of the fruit becomes to heavy for it to bear. Normally propping up with bamboo is common practice when it is observed that the tree is about to topple over from the weight.

Finally a farming post…. *snicker*
