A Slashdot article highlights netcraft’s data of a 2.76 million worth of domain name registrations for the month of june…

It is the second highest no of monthly registrations tallied by Netcraft, surpassed only by the 3.3 million logged for the month of March 2003.

To quote verbatim from the netcraft site.

Factors in the dramatic growth include:

* Increasing use of the Internet by small businesses as web sites and online storefronts become more affordable.
* The explosive growth of weblogs, a growing number of which are purchasing domains for branding purposes.
* Speculation in the market for domain names, buoyed by rising resale prices and the ability to generate revenue via pay-per-click advertising on parked domains.
* Strong sales of online advertising, especially keyword-based contextual ads that support business models for both domain parking and commercial weblogs.

So to paraphrase Austin Powers, Blog users… take a bow!

Looking at the graphs below, Apache web server usage are still increasing. Taking a commanding lead at 69.98% Based from my own IIS experience… performance wise, Apache is better… security wise, I wouldn’t touch IIS with a 100ft pole.
