Diversion Road…
There is this long stretch of highway that cut’s a path between the Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte exits of the city. As a boy I’ve always known it to be the Diversion road, because it circumvents the passage of large trucks passing from del norte to del sur from having to traverse the small streets of the city and cause traffic. And inbetween the north and south exits are nifty exits to valuable points within the city district.
So great, it works… and lives up to the 15-mins-to-anypoint-within-the-city? Na-ah… those massive trucks slowdown the traffic at diversion road to a jump, skip and a crawl… it ain’t no super highway I tell you… between the buhangin and the bangkal exits there is this part of steep curving inclines that basically subjects the trucks to the Law of Physics… that’s gravity for you baby!
I’ve learned, that it would be safer to live with the traffic of the city (which isn’t much anyway if you’re from manila) than contend with daredevil drivers who like to overtake these gargantuan trucks in blind curves… Not to mention that these reckless demons of pavement have no inclination or hesitation to cut your path in order to avoid the incoming traffic from the other lane… I mean, kill yourself why don’t you, but don’t take me and my wife along with you…
These guys at city government just have to make this a four lane road…
But heck… come to think of it… the city would be a whole lot worse without this road…
On a personal note… as a boy, passing this road on an early June and January meant that I was on my way back to Manila… because the airport could be accessed via this road… it was a sad experience because it meant that I would be leaving my land of birth and family for another long stint of studies… but now that sacrifice is over and I have to say, that it was definitely worth it… for the lessons learned and the wisdom that experience brought…
