The great fertilizer hunt…
I spent the afternoon driving around the local Binondo equivalent, known as Uyanguren, to look for my “menudo” fertilizer… I ended up in Agway, near the Holy Cross College of Davao.
I know I know, I should have looked for it in the yellow pages… except, I don’t have yellow pages… any recent that is… and it has no section labelled fertilizer… excuses excuses… Well I was relying on information from my tita’s niece who’s a fertilizer dealer…
So you’re probably wondering why I don’t buy from him… well, far from the fact of not wanting to impose… I have no need of 500 bags worth of fertilizer…
Yup, he’s a wholesaler… I learned that these big farms (that are supposed to be CARP’d already) order fertilizer via bidding… his partner and him helped explain to me the proper care of the fertilizer I was purchasing… namely store in a cool dry place and to buy only what’s needed so that it doesn’t oxidize and I’ll just end up with caked fertilizer…
An alternative is to seal it tightly… So I had to buy those blue sealing-plastic- bag-thingy’s that you see in national bookstore sales counters… I got a small model that cost me about PHP 700+… I spent the evening closing those plastic bags (crap I have to find better plastic bags for them)… now I have to go buy a sprayer… turns out the one my dad had, my mom gave away…
I’m still missing a few fertilizer elements which I’ll look for tomorrow… I had to call off the search because I had a previous appointment, therefore could not wait out the rain that was pouring very strongly… You might think of me as a wimp for calling off a task because of rain… well, that was my only alternative, because if my fertilizer got wet, there goes my investment…
Not much rush on my part though… since farming is using “farm-time”… My buffer periods are in weeks, not days…
