So long Miller Time…
I knew him when he wasn’t called Uncle Reggie. When Market Square Arena was the Pacer’s homecourt. When they were wearing uniforms with stripes on their sides. When the 7′4″ Rik Smits was the man filling the center. When the Davis boys were patrolling the shaded lane. When Mark Jackson was calling the shots. When Mckey was doing the yeoman’s job and point-forward was the “in” thing. When they beat Orlando, Atlanta then succumbed to the Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals of 1994. That season started it all for the Pacers for a near-consistent appearance at the Eastern Conference Finals.

Times have changed. Those were the days when he was the one being double teamed. When nobody would dare leave him alone in the 3 point arc. When the 3 point arc was a foot further away compared to where it is now. when the fourth quarter was “Miller Time.” Where an 8 point deficit in the last minute was not a hopeless cause as long as he was on the floor.
Yesterday, I heard that Reggie Miller was retiring. After 18 years, this is his final season. Reggie Miller was what sold me to be a Pacer Fan. This gutsy, wiry, scarecrow with the deadly shot… you’d wonder if he was capable of playing NBA ball. He was a no-star in team of no-heroes, who showed us night in and night out that teamwork was what won games. That an open man with an open shot and good defense were always the key to a W…
Well so long Reg… thanks for all the memories
