The road less travelled

I had dinner with my college buddies last night… not much had changed (except maybe for my girth)… they all looked the same… except of course for the faces… you could see 7 years worth of experience if you looked closer…

For most them, who had lived a life outside the shelter of a big company… they had a lot of stories to tell… they had lived the life… stories of problems with labor… problems settled in court… problems with tenants… real life stuff… corruption in government…

They had lived the life… they had reaped the rewards… and the failures of their parents… and their own failures… I felt a sense of relief when I heard their worries… I thought I had problems… they gave me tips on how to go about my problems… but then… my worries are huge in itself…

Common denominator on the advice they gave… very hard to find good friends out there… never to go into business with a friend… choose your friends wisely… choose your employee’s wisely… karma comes back to you… humility is a good disposition when all is already lost… it’s good to have padrino’s… take care of your padrino’s and your subcons… they will all help you in the end… even if you don’t receive the dividends right away, a well placed loss could equate to higher gains in the future… don’t put your egg’s in one basket… banks are evil…

One friend went even so far as to sell insurance in the LTO…. one had a father who was TNT in the states because of a bad venture… he had to answer to the bank… one had shutdown an entire company he was subcontracting to because his man in his hurriedness tapped into the main line causing all the circuits to trip… he thought he was going to be jailed… he had to change his company name inorder to be able to do business with them again…

This is a jump from corporate life to entepreneurship… some of us took the leap ahead of others… others… refused to take it… I wonder why… my friend said that some of us just don’t like to live outside and want to be sheltered forever in a company… that will kick you out once you’ve reached the mandatory retirement age… they are just delaying the inevitable… I choose to prepare for the inevitable… by the only means I know how… by taking this big risk…
